Vesak Celebration at the Australia NSW State Parliament House on 9 May 2024

On 9 May 2024, two representatives from DDM Sydney were invited to attend the Vesak Celebration at the NSW State Parliament, organised by the Buddhist Council of NSW with funding from the Ministry of Multiculturalism of the NSW Government.

It was the first time this event was held at Parliament House. Politicians from both the NSW Government and the Shadow Ministry praised the wonderful work provided by Buddhist groups to the community. The Buddhist virtues of compassion and wisdom were highly valued, recognized, and acknowledged.

It was also an occasion for monastics and laypeople from the Mahayana, Theravada, and Vajrayana traditions to jointly celebrate this significant event in the Buddhist calendar. Monastics from the three traditions took turns chanting, praising the Buddha, and wishing for blessings, peace, and happiness for all attendees and everyone in the world.

The event was so successful that the government will support it henceforth as an annual event, much to the delight of the Buddhist community.
