On May 15th, Buddha's Birthday of 2024 (the 8th day of the 4th lunar month according to Chinese Buddhism), Buddhist followers in Hong Kong came to the Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) Hong Kong Centre in Lai Chi Kok for the 2024 annual Bathing-the-Buddha Ceremony. To express gratitude for Buddha's birth, participants bathed the Buddha statue with pure water and fragrant flowers amidst the chanting of the Buddha's name.
The ceremony was officiated by Venerable Chang Zhan (常展法師), Director of the Hong Kong Centre. After making lamp offerings, the followers bathed the Buddha statue with fragrant water. Ven. Chang Zhan explained that we show our gratitude to the Buddha not only by bathing his statue, but also by becoming diligent in our cultivation of morality, meditation, and wisdom while eradicating our greed, anger, and ignorance. In addition, he encouraged us to learn and practice different levels of cultivation in order to better help ourselves and others.
